Also known as the forbidden kingdom of Nepal, Upper Mustang has a long and rich history and offers breathtaking views of the landscapes, high passes, and snowcapped mountains. The intricacies of Lo Manthang and the epic adventure to the ancient city has been one to crave for. In the making of such grand journey, the Tibetan-Buddhist villages offer insights on their culture and lifestyle which makes the trek a complete combination of all the required parameters.

The trek starts from Jomsom which is the headquarters of Mustang. The trail takes you through the mystical kingdom’s vast and barren valleys, worn out canyons, deep gorges, mud-brick houses, and provides views of Annapurna and Nilgiri mountains in the backdrop. Trekkers pass through many Buddhist gompas, Chortens, and Mani walls which represent the great history of Tibetan Buddhism. The highlight of the trek is the walled city of Lo-Manthang which dates back to the 14th century. During the trek, you get to observe the lifestyle of the mountain people, their food, their houses, culture and so on. Although there are a few high passes on the trek route, Mustang trek is not that difficult. Mustang is cold in the winter, and dusty and windy throughout the year that is why the best season for this trek is Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September to November). As Mustang falls in the rain shadow region, you can go for this trek during the monsoon season as well.
